Bus
From the center of Paterson, walk to the Paterson Bus Terminal located at 1 Market St. Take the NJ Transit bus #190 towards New York City. The bus will take about 30 minutes to reach the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan. Once you arrive at the Port Authority, exit the terminal and walk east on 42nd St. towards 8th Ave. Turn left on 8th Ave. and continue walking until you reach W 34th St. Turn right on W 34th St. and walk until you see the Empire State Building at 20 W 34th St.
Train
From Paterson, walk to the Paterson Train Station located at 100 Broadway. Board a NJ Transit train on the Main/Bergen County Line heading towards Hoboken. After about 25 minutes, transfer at Secaucus Junction to a train heading to New York Penn Station. Once you arrive at Penn Station, exit onto 34th St. and walk east towards 6th Ave. Turn left on 6th Ave. and then turn right on W 34th St. Continue walking until you reach the Empire State Building at 20 W 34th St.
Walking
If you are nearby, you can walk to the Empire State Building from various locations in Paterson. For example, from the Great Falls National Historical Park, head southeast toward Market St. Turn left on Market St. and walk until you reach the Paterson Bus Terminal. From there, follow the bus directions to New York City. Alternatively, you can take a longer walk through Paterson to the train station and then take the train or bus to New York.
