Bus
From Paterson, walk to the nearest NJ Transit bus stop. Take the NJ Transit bus #190 towards New York Port Authority Bus Terminal. Once you arrive at Port Authority, exit the bus and walk to the subway entrance located inside the terminal. Take the A, C, or E subway line from 42nd Street to 59th Street - Columbus Circle. Transfer to the N, Q, R, or W subway at 59th Street and travel to 5th Avenue - 59th Street station. From there, walk east towards Central Park, and continue until you reach E 71st St. Rumsey Playfield will be located within Central Park on your left.
Train
Make your way to the Paterson Train Station. Take a NJ Transit train on the North Jersey Coast Line or Raritan Valley Line towards New York Penn Station. Once at Penn Station, follow signs to the subway. Take the 1, 2, or 3 subway line uptown to 59th St - Columbus Circle. From Columbus Circle, transfer to the N, Q, R, or W train and head to 5th Avenue - 59th Street station. Exit and walk east towards Central Park, continuing to E 71st St where Rumsey Playfield is located.
Walking
If you are near the city center of Paterson, you can walk to the nearest NJ Transit bus stop or train station. From there, use the public transportation options listed above to reach New York City, and follow the walking directions from Columbus Circle to Rumsey Playfield. It’s a bit of a trek, but it can be a scenic route through the city.
