After arriving by car or shuttle, you will need to hike to reach the heart of Wheeler Peak Wilderness. The primary trailhead is located at the Williams Lake Trail. The hike starts at the Williams Lake Trailhead, which is marked and accessible from NM-150 S. The trail is approximately 2.5 miles one way, leading you through beautiful alpine scenery before reaching the stunning Williams Lake, which is the gateway to Wheeler Peak.
