There will be a sign indicating the direction to Lake Lucero. Follow the dirt path that leads into the area; it's about a 2-mile hike from this point. Ensure to stay on the marked trails to avoid disturbing the delicate environment.

Starting from the White Sands Visitor Center, rent a bike if you don't have one. Head south on New Mexico Highway 70 for about 1.5 miles. Look for the sign indicating the turn-off for Lake Lucero on your right. Take this turn and follow the dirt trail leading to Lake Lucero. The biking distance from the Visitor Center to Lake Lucero is approximately 2 miles, but the terrain can be sandy, so be prepared for some effort.
