Nature's Hidden Gem: Brandow Point Unique Area

Getting There

• Walking

  Start your journey at the Hudson Amtrak Station located at 1 Hudson Avenue, Hudson, NY. Exit the station and head south on Hudson Avenue towards the intersection with 3rd Street. Turn left onto 3rd Street and walk until you reach the intersection with Warren Street. Continue straight onto Warren Street, which will take you through the heart of downtown Hudson. Enjoy the shops and cafes along the way. When you reach the intersection with Route 23, turn right and follow it until you reach the Hudson River waterfront. Once at the waterfront, take the pedestrian pathway north, which will lead you to the scenic views of the river. Keep walking along the river until you reach the entrance to the Greenport Conservation Area. From there, follow the signs for the trails leading to Brandow Point Unique Area. The total walking distance is approximately 3 miles and may take around 1 hour, depending on your pace.

• Biking

  If you prefer biking, rent a bike from one of the local bike shops in Hudson. Begin your ride at the Hudson Amtrak Station and head south on Hudson Avenue. Turn left onto 3rd Street and then right onto Warren Street, following it straight until you reach Route 23. Take a left onto Route 23 and follow it as it curves towards the waterfront. Once you reach the Hudson River, follow the biking paths along the waterfront heading north. You will eventually reach the entrance to Greenport Conservation Area where you can park your bike and continue on foot to Brandow Point Unique Area. The biking distance is about 3 miles, and should take around 15-20 minutes, depending on your cycling speed.

• Public Transport

  For public transport, start at the Hudson Amtrak Station and take a bus from the station that travels towards Catskill. You may need to check the schedule for specific routes that will take you closest to Brandow Point Unique Area. Once you reach Catskill, get off at a stop closest to NY-385. From there, you will need to walk approximately 1 mile to reach Brandow Point Unique Area. Follow the directions from the bus stop to head southwest on NY-385 until you arrive at the park entrance. The total travel time will depend on the bus schedule but expect it to take around 1.5 to 2 hours including the bus ride and walking.
