Getting There

• Bus

  To reach Mystic, CT from Montauk, start by heading to the Montauk Bus Terminal. You can get there by walking from many hotels and attractions in the Montauk area, as it's centrally located. Once at the terminal, take the Suffolk County Transit Bus #10 toward East Hampton. After approximately 20 minutes, transfer to the Hampton Jitney bus that will take you towards New London. Make sure to check the bus schedule beforehand, as the timings can vary. After about 1 hour and 30 minutes, you will arrive at New London. From there, transfer to a bus heading towards Mystic. The total travel time should be around 2 to 3 hours depending on connections.

• Train

  From Montauk, you can take the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train from the Montauk Station. Make sure to check the train schedule for the Montauk to Penn Station route. You will need to take the train to New York City and then transfer to a Metro-North train at Grand Central Terminal heading towards New Haven. Get off at New Haven and catch the Shore Line East train toward Old Saybrook, which stops at Mystic. This journey can take about 4 to 5 hours in total, so plan your day accordingly.

• Bicycle

  For the adventurous, biking to Mystic is an option. Start from Montauk and head west along Montauk Highway (Route 27). You'll ride through beautiful coastal scenery. The total distance is approximately 18 miles to the nearest bus stop at East Hampton. From there, you can catch a bus to New London and then transfer to Mystic. Make sure you have a map or GPS device to navigate the bike routes safely, and don’t forget to check the weather before you set off.

• Walking

  If you’re feeling particularly adventurous and enjoy long walks, you could walk to the nearest bus stop at East Hampton first. From Montauk, it is about a 10-mile trek to the East Hampton Bus Terminal. Walk along Montauk Highway, and once you reach the terminal, catch the Suffolk County Transit Bus #10 towards East Hampton, then transfer to the Hampton Jitney to Mystic. Be prepared for a long day of walking and traveling, as this option will likely take most of the day.
