Getting There

  • Walking

    From the Invercargill city centre, head west on Dee Street. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Tay Street. Turn left onto Tay Street and walk until you reach the roundabout. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto the Southern Scenic Route (State Highway 1) heading towards Bluff. Continue walking along this route for approximately 2.5 kilometers. You will need to walk past the Southland Museum and Art Gallery, and keep an eye out for the signs directing you towards the Aurora Australis viewpoint. After about 30 minutes of walking, you should see signs indicating the viewpoint and a small path leading to it.

    From the Invercargill city centre, find the nearest bus stop and take the 'Bluff' bus route. The bus will take you towards Bluff, and you should request to get off at the stop nearest to the Southern Scenic Route. Once you disembark, walk back towards the main road and head west for about 1 kilometer until you see signs for the Aurora Australis viewpoint. The walk from the bus stop to the viewpoint should take around 15-20 minutes.
