Start from the Nelson city center. Head to the bus stop located at the intersection of Trafalgar Street and Hardy Street. Take the 'Maitai Valley' bus, which runs regularly. Inform the driver that you are headed to Coppermine Trail. The bus will take you along the Maitai River Road. Get off at the stop closest to the Maitai Dam, which is about a 20-minute bus ride. From the bus stop, you can walk towards the Coppermine Trailhead, which is about a 15-minute walk uphill.

If you prefer cycling, rent a bike from one of the local rental shops in Nelson. Start your journey from the city center and head towards the Maitai Valley Road.
