Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from Kerikeri, take State Highway 10 southbound. After approximately 15 minutes, you will reach the intersection with State Highway 11. Turn left onto State Highway 11 and continue for about 6 kilometers. Follow the signs for Waitangi Treaty Grounds. You will see a sign for 'Waitangi' on your left, turn onto Tau Henare Drive. The entrance to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds will be on your left side. There is parking available on-site, which may incur a fee.

• Public Transport

  From Paihia, you can catch a local bus service to Waitangi. The bus departs from the Paihia bus stop and takes about 10 minutes to reach Waitangi Treaty Grounds. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance, as services may vary. The bus fare is around NZD 2-3. Once you get off the bus, it’s a short walk to the entrance of the Waitangi Treaty Grounds.

• Walk

  If you are in Paihia, it’s a beautiful 40-minute walk to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. You can start your walk by heading south along the waterfront, following the scenic path. Once you reach the Waitangi Bridge, cross over, and you will see signs guiding you to the Treaty Grounds. Ensure you wear comfortable shoes, as some parts of the path can be uneven.

• Taxi or Rideshare

  If you prefer a more direct option, you can use a taxi or a rideshare service from Paihia. The trip will take around 8-10 minutes and generally costs NZD 10-15. Make sure to book your ride in advance during peak tourist seasons.

• Bike

  For the more adventurous, biking from Paihia to Waitangi is a fantastic option. There are bike rental shops in Paihia, and the ride will take about 15-20 minutes. Follow the same route as the walking path; there are designated bike lanes for safety. Ensure you wear a helmet and follow local traffic rules.
