    From the center of Wanaka, head south on Pembroke Park towards the Main Street (also known as Ardmore Street). Continue straight until you reach the end of the street, where it intersects with Lake Wanaka. Follow the path along the lakefront heading east, which will lead you to the Wanaka Station Park. From there, you can take the walking trail that leads towards Lake Hāwea. The distance is approximately 20 kilometers, and it may take around 4 to 5 hours of walking, so be sure to take plenty of water and snacks with you.

  • Bicycle

    Rent a bike from one of the local rental shops in Wanaka. Once you have your bike, head south on Pembroke Park and follow the same route as if you were walking, but you can take the designated cycling paths. After about 20 kilometers, you will arrive at Lake Hāwea. The cycling route is generally flat and should take around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your speed.

    Check the local bus schedule for the Wanaka to Lake Hāwea route. Buses typically depart from the Wanaka bus stop located near the Information Centre on Ardmore Street.
