If you're driving from Dunedin city center, take George Street heading south and continue onto the Southern Scenic Route (State Highway 1). Follow the signs for Dunedin and then take the exit onto Andersons Bay Road. Continue on Andersons Bay Road until you reach the roundabout, then take the second exit onto Blackhead Road. Follow Blackhead Road until you reach the Tunnel Beach car park. The parking area is free, but it's a good idea to arrive early as it can fill up quickly during peak tourist times.

To reach Tunnel Beach via public transport, take the bus service from Dunedin city center to Blackhead. Bus services such as the 80 route will take you close to Tunnel Beach. You will need to get off at the stop closest to Blackhead Road. From there, it's about a 20-minute walk to the Tunnel Beach entrance. Ensure to check the bus schedule in advance for the most current times and routes. A single bus fare will typically cost around NZD 2-4, depending on the distance.
