Getting There

  • Bus

    From Queenstown, head to the Queenstown Bus Station located at 24 Shotover Street. Take the InterCity bus heading towards Te Anau. The journey takes approximately 2 hours. Once you arrive at the Te Anau bus stop, you will need to catch the Mavora Lakes shuttle service. Make sure to check the shuttle timetable in advance, as it may not run frequently. The shuttle will drop you off at Mavora Lakes Road, from where it's a short walk to the lakes.

  • Bike

    For the adventurous, you can rent a bike from one of the many rental shops in Queenstown. Head towards Frankton and follow the cycle path along Lake Wakatipu. Continue on State Highway 6 until you reach the turnoff for Mavora Lakes Road. The ride is around 40 km and may take about 2-3 hours depending on your cycling speed. Once on Mavora Lakes Road, follow it until you reach the Mavora Lakes Conservation Park entrance.

  • Walking Tour

    While walking all the way to Mavora Lakes is not practical, you can consider walking to nearby attractions first. Start your journey by walking from Queenstown to Frankton. From Frankton, you can catch the InterCity bus to Te Anau and then take the Mavora Lakes shuttle. However, be prepared for a full day of travel and ensure to check the bus and shuttle schedules ahead of time.
