From the Rotorua central bus station, catch a bus heading south towards Taupo. Ensure to board a bus that has a stop in Tīrau. The journey will take approximately 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive in Tīrau, disembark at the main bus stop, which is located near the Tīrau i-SITE Visitor Centre. The Big Dog and Sheep attraction is just a short walk away, approximately 5 minutes on foot, heading south along State Highway 1.

If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike from one of the rental shops in Rotorua. Start from the city center and head south on the Ngongotaha Road, which connects to State Highway 1. Follow State Highway 1 for about 29 kilometers. The ride will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Once you reach Tīrau, look for the Tīrau i-SITE Visitor Centre on your right side, where you will find the Big Dog and Sheep attraction.

Walking to Tīrau from Rotorua is not recommended due to the distance of approximately 29 kilometers and the need to navigate along State Highway 1, which can be unsafe for pedestrians. However, if you find yourself near the outskirts of Rotorua, you can start walking south towards Tīrau, following the footpath along Ngongotaha Road until it merges with State Highway 1. This journey can take several hours and is best undertaken with caution. It is advisable to use public transport or a bike for this distance.
