To reach Waipapa Point Lighthouse by car, start your journey from Invercargill, the largest city in Southland. Head south on State Highway 1 (SH1) for approximately 40 km until you reach the town of Gore. At Gore, take the exit onto State Highway 94 (SH94) towards Te Anau. Continue on SH94 for about 60 km until you reach the town of Lumsden. From Lumsden, take a left onto State Highway 96 (SH96). After about 15 km, turn right onto Waipapa Point Road. Follow this road for approximately 10 km until you arrive at the Waipapa Point Lighthouse. There is a parking area available near the lighthouse, and no entry fee is required.

If you are using public transport, take a bus from Invercargill to Gore. Several daily services operate between these two locations. Once you arrive in Gore, you may need to arrange a taxi or rideshare to continue your journey, as public transport options to Waipapa Point are limited. The taxi ride from Gore to the lighthouse will take approximately 30 minutes and may cost around NZD 60-80. Make sure to confirm the fare before starting your journey.
