Car
From New Plymouth, head south on State Highway 45 (Surf Highway) for approximately 42 kilometers. Continue straight as you pass through the small towns of Oakura and Okato. Once you reach the junction towards Pungarehu, take a left onto Cape Road. Follow Cape Road for about 8 kilometers until you reach the Cape Egmont Lighthouse located at 377-379 Cape Road, Pungarehu 4685. There is ample parking available near the lighthouse.

Public Transportation
Take the Taranaki Regional Council bus service from New Plymouth to Pungarehu. Buses may not run frequently, so check the schedule in advance. Once you arrive in Pungarehu, you will need to book a taxi or rideshare service to take you the final 6 kilometers to Cape Egmont Lighthouse, as public transport does not go directly to the lighthouse.

If you are staying in Pungarehu and prefer a scenic walk, you can walk from the village to the lighthouse. The walk is approximately 6 kilometers along Cape Road and will take around 1.5 to 2 hours. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and be aware of traffic as you walk along the road.
