Ferry
To reach Moturiki Island, start at the Tauranga waterfront where you can find the ferry terminal near the Strand. Look for signs directing you to the ferry services. Purchase a ticket from the kiosk or online if available. Once you have your ticket, board the ferry that goes to Moturiki Island or the nearby Mount Maunganui area, as the ferry may not go directly to the island. Enjoy the scenic ride across the Bay of Plenty, taking in views of the coastline and surrounding islands. Once you arrive at the dock, disembark and follow the signs to explore the island.

Walking
If you are already at Mount Maunganui, you can walk to Moturiki Island. From the base of Mount Maunganui, head towards the beach and follow the coastal path along the water. Continue walking until you reach the sandbar connecting to Moturiki Island. During low tide, you can walk across the sandbar directly to the island. Be mindful of the tide times so you don’t get stranded on the island. Once on Moturiki Island, explore the walking tracks and enjoy the views.

To get to Moturiki Island using public transport, take a bus from central Tauranga towards Mount Maunganui. Check the local bus schedule for the best route. Once you arrive at Mount Maunganui, head towards the beach where you will find the ferry terminal. Purchase your ferry ticket as described earlier, and board the ferry that goes to Moturiki Island or to the beach area where you can access the sandbar.
