Getting There

    Start at the Wanaka i-SITE Visitor Centre located at 103 Ardmore Street. Board the 'Connectabus' service heading to Cromwell. The bus runs several times a day, so check the schedule at the visitor centre or online. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes. Disembark at the Cromwell stop on the main road, which is a short walk from the Cromwell Heritage Precinct.

    Rent a bicycle from one of the local bike rental shops in Wanaka, such as 'Wanaka Bike Tours'. Head east on Ardmore Street, then take a left onto the Lake Wanaka waterfront path. Follow the path and signs toward the Clutha River Outlet. Once you reach the outlet, follow the trail to the south. You will eventually arrive at the junction with State Highway 6. Follow the highway towards Cromwell, which is about 20 kilometers away. The ride will take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours depending on your pace.

    Walking from Wanaka to Cromwell is quite a long trek, approximately 20 kilometers. Start at the Wanaka i-SITE Visitor Centre and head east on Ardmore Street towards the lakefront. Follow the lakefront path to the Clutha River Outlet. From the outlet, continue along the trail that leads towards Cromwell. It's best to plan for this as a full-day hike, as it will take around 4 to 5 hours. Be sure to bring plenty of water and snacks.
