From Matagalpa city center, head southwest on Calle 15 de Septiembre towards Avenida José de la Cruz Mena. Continue on Avenida José de la Cruz Mena until you reach the intersection with the Pan-American Highway (Carretera Panamericana). Turn left onto the Pan-American Highway and drive for approximately 12 kilometers. Look for the signs indicating 'El refugio de Saint Tomas'. The destination will be on your right at the coordinates X388+GR3. There is usually no parking fee, but confirm that there is parking available upon arrival.

From the Matagalpa bus terminal, take a bus heading towards Jinotega. The fare is typically around 30-50 NIO (Nicaraguan Cordoba). Inform the bus driver that you want to get off at the turnoff for 'El refugio de Saint Tomas'. The bus ride will take about 30-40 minutes. Once you get off, you may need to walk approximately 1 kilometer on foot to reach the destination. Be prepared for a short walk on a dirt road, which may be uneven.
