Getting There

Walking
From downtown Boone, head east on King Street. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Blowing Rock Road (US-321). Turn left onto Blowing Rock Road and continue for about 0.5 miles. You will need to cross the road and look for signs for the Boone Greenway Trail. Follow the Greenway Trail until it merges into a dirt path. This path will take you towards Little Laurel Road. Once you reach Little Laurel Road, turn left and continue walking for about 1.5 miles. Keep an eye out for Turtle Island Preserve on your left at 2683 Little Laurel Rd. The entrance will be marked.

Start from downtown Boone and rent a bike from one of the local bike rental shops. Head east on King Street, then take a left onto Blowing Rock Road (US-321). Biking on the road is permitted, but be cautious of traffic. Continue straight for about 0.5 miles. Look for the Boone Greenway Trail and turn onto it. Follow the trail as it transitions into a dirt path. Continue until you reach Little Laurel Road. Take a left on Little Laurel Road and bike for about 1.5 miles. Turtle Island Preserve will be on your left at 2683 Little Laurel Rd.

From downtown Boone, take the AppalCart bus service. Board the route that heads toward Blowing Rock and get off at the stop closest to Blowing Rock Road. From there, walk towards Blowing Rock Road and turn left, walking approximately 0.5 miles until you find the Boone Greenway Trail entrance. Follow the trail until it leads you to Little Laurel Road. Turn left on Little Laurel Road and walk about 1.5 miles until you arrive at Turtle Island Preserve at 2683 Little Laurel Rd.
