Getting There

• Car

  From any location within the Missouri Plateau, head towards Mandan, North Dakota. Use the nearest major road or highway to get to Interstate 94 (I-94). If you are coming from Bismarck, take I-94 W for approximately 6 miles. Take exit 155 for US-83 S toward Mandan. Merge onto US-83 S. Continue on US-83 S for about 3 miles until you reach Mandan. Once in Mandan, follow signs to Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, where On-A-Slant Indian Village is located. The village is approximately 5 miles from downtown Mandan, situated within the state park. There is an entrance fee for the park, which is around $7 per vehicle, so be prepared to pay this upon entry.

• Public Transportation

  If you are using public transportation, check for bus services that operate from Bismarck to Mandan. The local bus service, Bis-Man Transit, may offer routes to Mandan. Once you arrive in Mandan, you will need to take a taxi or a rideshare service (such as Uber or Lyft) to Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, which is about 5 miles away from the downtown bus terminal. Be aware that rideshare services may have variable costs depending on the time of day and demand.

• Bicycle

  For those who prefer cycling, you can bike from Mandan to Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park. The route is approximately 5 miles and is mostly on paved roads. Start from downtown Mandan and head south on 3rd Ave NW, which leads into Fort Lincoln Rd. Follow the signs for the park. Remember to wear a helmet and be cautious of traffic. This option is free, but ensure your bike is in good working condition before you set off.
