If you are traveling by car from various locations in the Turtle Mountains, head southeast on ND-3 S or ND-8 S towards Mandan. Continue on ND-3 S for approximately 70 miles until you reach the intersection with I-94 E. Merge onto I-94 E and continue for about 15 miles. Take exit 152 for US-83 S toward Bismarck. Follow US-83 S for about 4 miles until you reach the Roughrider Trail exit. Turn left onto Roughrider Trail, and after about 5 miles, you'll find Fort Rice State Historic Site on your right. There is no entrance fee to access the historic site.
