History of Edmond

Edmond, Oklahoma, was established during the Land Run of 1889. On April 22, 1889, thousands of settlers rushed to claim lands in the Unassigned Lands, and Edmond was one of the original townships to be settled. The town was named after Edmond Burdick, a Santa Fe railroad station agent.
The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway played a crucial role in the development of Edmond. The establishment of a coaling and watering station for trains was the primary reason for the town's location.
