From the main road along the Talimena Scenic Byway, head towards the Winding Stair Shelter located on the Ouachita National Recreation Trail. The coordinates for the shelter are approximately 34.7092° N latitude and -94.6774° W longitude. If you are coming from Mena, Arkansas, travel south on Highway 71 and then take the Talimena Scenic Byway (OK-1) east. Continue for about 20 miles until you reach the shelter area. Look for the sign indicating the shelter and park in the designated area.
