Car
If you are traveling by car within Harney Basin, head north on US-395 from Burns. Continue on US-395 for about 70 miles until you reach the junction with US-26. Take a left onto US-26 West and drive for approximately 40 miles. You will see signs for the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, Sheep Rock Unit. The entrance is located on the right side of the road at the address US-26, Dayville, OR 97825. There is no entrance fee for the monument.

Public Transportation
Public transportation options are limited in the Harney Basin region. The nearest bus service is provided by Greyhound, which can drop you off in either Burns or John Day. From Burns, you can take a taxi service or rideshare (if available) to reach John Day. Once in John Day, you may need to arrange for a taxi to take you to the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, Sheep Rock Unit, which is about 22 miles away. Be sure to check the bus schedules in advance as services may not be frequent.
