Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving from Hood River, head east on Interstate 84. Take exit 44 toward Cascade Locks. Continue on the exit ramp, and merge onto Cascade Locks. Follow signs for Viento State Park, which is located approximately 8 miles from the exit. The park entrance will be on your right, and there is a parking area available. Please note that there may be a parking fee, which can vary by season.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Viento State Park via public transportation, take the Columbia Gorge Express bus service from Hood River. The bus typically departs from the Hood River Transit Center. Once on the bus, stay on until you reach the Cascade Locks stop. From there, it’s about a 1.5-mile walk to the park entrance. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance for service times and potential fare costs.

• Bicycle

  For those who prefer cycling, you can bike from Hood River to Viento State Park using the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail. Start at the waterfront area in Hood River and follow the trail along the river. The ride is approximately 8 miles and offers stunning views of the gorge. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow all cycling safety rules.

• Walking

  If you are already in Cascade Locks, you can walk to Viento State Park. Start at the Cascade Locks Visitor Center and head east along the Historic Columbia River Highway. The park is about 2 miles away, and the walk is relatively flat and straightforward. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water.
