Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start by navigating to Cascade Locks, OR. From the I-84 highway, take exit 44 towards Cascade Locks. Once on the Main St, follow it until you reach the intersection with WaNaPa St. Turn left onto WaNaPa St, which will lead you to the Mount Defiance Trailhead. Park at the trailhead parking area (note: there may be a small parking fee). From the parking lot, the trail to Lancaster Falls begins. The hike is approximately 1.5 miles each way on the Mount Defiance Trail #413. Be prepared for a moderately steep and rocky trail.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, check the local bus services that operate in the Columbia River Gorge area. You can take the Columbia Area Transit (CAT) bus to Cascade Locks. From the bus stop, you will need to walk to the Mount Defiance Trailhead, which is about a 1.5-mile walk along Main St and WaNaPa St. After reaching the trailhead, start your hike on Mount Defiance Trail #413 to Lancaster Falls. Ensure to check the bus schedule ahead of time for the return trip.

• Hiking

  Once you arrive at the Mount Defiance Trailhead, begin your hike on the Mount Defiance Trail #413. The trail is well-marked. Follow the trail signs and keep an eye out for the landmarks that indicate you are heading towards Lancaster Falls. The hike will take approximately 1-2 hours depending on your pace. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking footwear and bring plenty of water, as the terrain can be rocky and steep in certain areas.
