Bus
From downtown Hood River, walk to the nearest bus stop located at 2nd and Oak Street. Board the Columbia Area Transit (CAT) bus heading towards Government Camp. Make sure to check the schedule in advance, as buses may not run frequently. You will travel along the scenic Highway 35, which offers beautiful views of the surrounding area. Get off at the Mt. Hood National Forest stop, which is approximately a 45-minute ride. From the bus stop, follow the signs leading to the Mt. Hood trailhead.
Bicycle
If you're feeling adventurous, rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Hood River. Once you have your bike, head south on 1st Street towards State Route 35. Follow State Route 35 for about 30 miles, enjoying the spectacular views of the Columbia River Gorge. There are bike lanes along the highway, and you will pass several scenic viewpoints before reaching the Mt. Hood area. Be sure to wear a helmet and stay hydrated on your journey.
Walking
For those who prefer a hike, find a local trail that connects to the Mt. Hood area. One popular option is to start from the Hood River Waterfront Park. Walk along the riverfront path heading west until you reach the base of the hills. From there, look for the trails that lead towards Mt. Hood. This will take some time and requires good hiking shoes, but you will be rewarded with stunning views as you get closer to the mountain.
