Getting There

  • Car

    From K2 Base Camp, you'll need to first make your way back to Skardu. The most common route is to drive down the K2 Base Camp Road towards Skardu City. This road can be rough, so make sure you have a good vehicle, ideally a 4x4. The distance is approximately 25 kilometers and will take around 1 to 1.5 hours. Once in Skardu, follow the signs to Chumik Road. Kharphocho Fort is located at the end of Chumik Road, just outside of the main city center.

  • Public Transportation

    If you prefer public transportation, from K2 Base Camp, you will need to hitch a ride or take a local jeep back to Skardu. The local jeeps usually leave when they are full, so be prepared to wait. The journey will take about 1 to 1.5 hours. Upon reaching Skardu, you can hire a taxi or a rickshaw to take you to Kharphocho Fort on Chumik Road. The taxi fare should be around 200 to 300 PKR, depending on your negotiation skills.
