Getting There

Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from Skardu city. Drive towards the Skardu Airport Road and continue straight for about 20 km until you reach the Shigar Valley junction. Take the left turn towards Shigar Valley and follow the road for approximately 30 km. You will pass through beautiful landscapes and small villages. Continue on this road until you reach the small town of Askole, which is the last point accessible by vehicle before starting your trek. The road may be rough, so ensure your vehicle is suitable for mountainous terrain. Expect to pay a toll fee of around PKR 100-200 for the roads. The total drive from Skardu to Askole takes about 2 to 3 hours.

Public Transportation (Jeep)
From Skardu, you can also opt for a shared jeep to Askole. Head to the main jeep stand in Skardu, located close to Hussaini Chowk. Shared jeeps usually leave in the morning and can accommodate around 8-10 passengers. The fare to Askole is approximately PKR 2000-2500 per person. The journey will take around 3-4 hours depending on road conditions. Be sure to confirm the departure times as they may vary.

Trekking
Once you reach Askole, your trek to K2 Base Camp begins. The path is well-marked, and it typically takes about 7-10 days to reach the base camp depending on your pace and acclimatization. You will trek through beautiful landscapes, including the Baltoro Glacier and the Concordia area. It is advisable to hire a local guide and porters for safety and assistance. Ensure to budget for their services, which can range from PKR 3000-5000 per day for guides and around PKR 1500-2000 per day for porters.
