Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the nearest major town, such as San Félix. Head east on the Pan-American Highway (Route 1) until you reach the turn-off for the Ngäbe-Buglé Comarca. The road is fairly well marked. Once you turn off, follow the signs toward Cerro Gavilan. The road may become less developed, so proceed with caution. Look out for local signs indicating the direction to Cerro Gavilan as you get closer. It's advisable to have a reliable vehicle, as some roads may be unpaved or in poor condition.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus from David to San Félix. Buses depart frequently and the fare is around $3. Once you arrive in San Félix, look for a bus or 'colectivo' (shared taxi) heading to the Ngäbe-Buglé Comarca. The fare for this leg is typically around $2 to $5. Upon reaching the Comarca, you may need to negotiate a ride with a local taxi to take you to Cerro Gavilan. Expect to pay around $10 to $15 for this taxi ride. Be sure to ask the driver to take you directly to the mountain, as there may be multiple routes.
Hiking
If you are feeling adventurous and are already in the vicinity of Cerro Gavilan, consider hiking to the summit.
