Walking
From the center of Portobelo, start at the main plaza (Plaza de la Independencia) where the statue of Christopher Columbus is located. Head southeast on Calle 5 de Noviembre, which is the main road. Continue walking for about 5 minutes until you reach a fork in the road. Take the right fork onto Calle 2 de Enero. Proceed straight for about 15 minutes. You will pass by local shops and restaurants. Keep an eye out for signs indicating Santiago Battery. At the end of this road, you will see a pathway leading up to Santiago Battery. Follow the pathway, and you will arrive at the site.
Public Transport (Bus)
From the main plaza (Plaza de la Independencia) in Portobelo, walk to the nearest bus stop located on the main road. Look for a bus heading towards the nearby town of Nombre de Dios. Board the bus and inform the driver that you want to get off at Santiago Battery. The bus ride will take approximately 10-15 minutes. Once you reach the designated stop, you will see signs for Santiago Battery. Walk a short distance (about 5 minutes) from the bus stop to the entrance of the battery.
Bicycle Rental
If you prefer cycling, rent a bicycle from one of the local rental shops in Portobelo. Start at the rental shop and head towards the main road (Calle 5 de Noviembre). Cycle southeast for about 5 minutes until you reach the fork. Take the right fork onto Calle 2 de Enero. Continue cycling straight for about 15 minutes. You will pass through scenic views and local neighborhoods. Look for the signs indicating Santiago Battery. When you reach the pathway leading to the battery, you can park your bicycle and walk up to the site.
