Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the nearest city, Mt. Hagen. Take the Highland Highway (National Route 1) heading south towards Mendi. After approximately 90 kilometers, look for the sign for Marila Hill. Turn onto the road that leads to Marila Hill and continue for about 25 kilometers until you reach MXP4+263. Ensure your vehicle has enough fuel, as there are limited service stations along the route.
Public Transportation
To reach Mt. Wilhelm using public transportation, catch a bus from Mt. Hagen to Mendi. Buses leave regularly from the main bus station in Mt. Hagen. The journey takes about 2-3 hours. Once in Mendi, you will need to find a local transport option, such as a PMV (public motor vehicle), that goes towards Marila Hill. Inform the driver that you want to stop at MXP4+263. The fare for the bus from Mt. Hagen to Mendi is approximately 20 PGK, and the PMV fare should be around 10 PGK.
Hiking
If you are already in the vicinity of Mt. Wilhelm and wish to hike, ensure you are equipped with proper gear. Start your hike from the closest village or access point, following local trails towards the mountain. Depending on your starting point, the hike can take several hours. It is advisable to hire a local guide who knows the area well. Guide fees can vary, but expect to pay around 100 PGK for a day.
