Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Chachapoyas, which is the nearest city to Catarata Gocta. From the city center, head southeast on Av. Circunvalación. Take the exit towards the PE-3N highway and continue for about 30 km. Look for signs leading to Cocachimba, the village closest to the waterfall. After reaching Cocachimba, park in the designated areas near the village. The entrance to the trail leading to the waterfall is about a 10-minute walk from the parking area.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus from Chachapoyas to Cocachimba. Buses regularly depart from the main bus terminal in Chachapoyas; the journey takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. Be sure to check the bus schedule upon arrival. Once in Cocachimba, you will need to pay a small entrance fee (around 10 soles) to access the trail leading to Catarata Gocta. The trailhead is a short walk from where the bus drops you off.
Hiking
Upon reaching Cocachimba, prepare for a hike to the waterfall. The trek is about 5 km one way and can take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your pace. The path is well-marked but can be steep in places. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water, as there are no shops along the route. As you hike, enjoy the lush surroundings and listen for the sounds of nature. When you reach the waterfall, take time to admire its beauty and capture memorable photos.
