Getting There

Car
If you're driving, head towards the town of Puerto Maldonado, which is the gateway to the Amazon. From Puerto Maldonado, take the Interoceanic Highway (Highway 30) south towards the town of Tambopata. Follow the signs for 'Refugio Amazonas.' The lodge is located on the right side of the Tambopata River. Keep in mind that the last stretch of the journey requires a boat ride to reach the lodge itself, as it is situated on the riverbank.

To reach Refugio Amazonas using public transportation, take a bus from any major city in Peru to Puerto Maldonado. Once in Puerto Maldonado, look for a local bus or van service to Tambopata. Upon arrival in Tambopata, you'll need to arrange a boat ride to the lodge. Several local tour operators offer this service, and it is advisable to confirm the boat schedule in advance. Expect to pay approximately 30-50 soles for the boat ride, depending on the size of the group.
