Car
From Huaraz, the capital of Ancash, take the Carretera Huaraz-Pativilca (Route 3N) heading north. After approximately 60 km, you will reach the town of Pativilca. Continue on the same road for another 20 km until you reach the junction for Route 3S. Turn left onto Route 3S towards the town of Huallanca. Drive for about 25 km until you reach Huallanca. Here, you may need to ask locals for directions to Lake Auquiscocha, as the final stretch may not be well-marked. From Huallanca, continue on a local road heading towards the lake, which is about 15 km away. Be prepared for rough and unpaved roads. Make sure your vehicle is suitable for such terrain, and consider hiring a local guide for assistance.
Public Transportation
From Huaraz, take a bus to Pativilca. Buses leave regularly from the main terminal and the journey takes about 1.5 hours, costing around 10-15 soles. Once in Pativilca, you will need to find a local taxi or shared van (colectivo) to Huallanca. This ride should cost around 5-10 soles and take about 30 minutes. After reaching Huallanca, inquire about local transport options to Lake Auquiscocha. You may need to hire a taxi or a local guide, as public transport directly to the lake is limited. The cost for this part can vary, but expect to pay around 30-50 soles for a taxi.
