Car
From the main road leading to Ausangate Trek, head towards the town of Tinki. Drive for approximately 1 hour (about 40 km) until you reach the town. From Tinki, continue driving towards the direction of Laguna Roja, following local signs. The road may become rough, so a 4WD vehicle is recommended. After about 30 minutes (15 km), you will arrive at the trailhead leading to Laguna Roja. Park your vehicle here, as further driving is not permitted.
Public Transportation
Take a bus or collectivo from Cusco to Tinki. This journey takes about 2 to 3 hours and costs around 10-15 soles. Once you arrive in Tinki, look for transportation options (such as a local taxi or shared vehicle) that can take you to the trailhead for Laguna Roja. This will take approximately 30 minutes and may cost around 20-30 soles. Be sure to arrange your return trip with the driver in advance, as transportation can be sparse.
Hiking
From the trailhead near Tinki, begin your hike towards Laguna Roja. The hike is approximately 2-3 hours depending on your pace and the trail conditions. Follow the well-marked paths and enjoy the scenic views along the way. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks for the journey, as there are no facilities on the trail.
