Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the town of Cusco. Head southeast on Av. de la Cultura, following signs toward Puno. After approximately 60 km, you will reach the town of Checacupe. From Checacupe, continue on the road until you arrive at the village of Pitumarca, which is about 25 km away. From Pitumarca, take the road to the village of Cusipata. Once in Cusipata, follow the signs for Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain, which is around 30 km from Cusipata. Be prepared for a rough road, and consider a high-clearance vehicle. Parking is available near the starting point of the hike.

To reach Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain using public transportation, start by taking a bus or minivan from Cusco to Pitumarca. Buses leave regularly from the Terminal Terrestre in Cusco and the journey takes about 2-3 hours. From Pitumarca, you can find local transport or shared taxis (known as 'colectivos') to Cusipata. This leg of the journey takes about 30 minutes. Once in Cusipata, continue to the trailhead for Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain via a pre-arranged taxi or local guide service.
