Car

If you are traveling by car, start from the center of Cusco. Head southeast on Av. El Sol towards Av. de la Cultura. Continue on Av. de la Cultura until you reach the junction with Route 28B. Take Route 28B towards Limatambo, which leads to the Apurímac region. Follow this road for approximately 3 hours, enjoying the scenic views along the way. Once you reach the town of Cachora, park your car in one of the designated parking areas. From here, you can either hike to Choquequirao or hire a local guide or muleteer to assist you on the trek. Please note, parking may incur a small fee, typically around 5-10 soles.

Public Transportation

To reach Choquequirao Experience using public transportation, you can take a bus from Cusco to Cachora. Head to the main bus station in Cusco and look for buses heading to Abancay or Cachora. The bus ride takes about 4 hours and costs approximately 15-25 soles. Once you arrive in Cachora, you will need to either hire a local guide or trek to the starting point of the Choquequirao trail. Be prepared for a challenging hike as the trek to Choquequirao from Cachora takes about 2-3 days depending on your pace. Ensure to carry sufficient water and snacks for the journey.

Hiking

If you are already in the vicinity of Choquequirao Trek, make your way to the starting point near Cachora. From there, begin your hike towards Choquequirao, which is approximately 30 km away and usually takes 2-3 days to reach. You will navigate through varied terrains including steep ascents and descents. Along the way, you’ll find camping spots and local vendors selling refreshments. Make sure to pack essentials such as a tent, sleeping bag, and food, as well as a map or GPS device to assist in navigation.
