Car
From Huaraz, take the main road (AV. Luzuriaga) heading south until you reach the intersection with Calle 28 de Julio. Turn left onto Calle 28 de Julio and continue straight until you reach the junction with Calle Huascar. Turn right onto Calle Huascar. Follow this road until you see signs for Laguna de Wilcacocha. The road will take you past local farms and beautiful mountain scenery. Once you reach the parking area near the trailhead, park your car. This drive should take approximately 30 minutes, depending on traffic.
Public Transportation
To reach Laguna de Wilcacocha via public transportation, head to the Huaraz main bus terminal. Look for minivans or colectivos heading towards Wilcacocha or the surrounding areas. The fare is usually around 5-10 soles per person. Inform the driver of your destination, and they will drop you off at the nearest point to the trailhead. From there, walk approximately 1.5 kilometers along the trail to reach the lake. This entire journey may take around 1 to 1.5 hours, including waiting time for the bus.
Hiking
If you are already in the vicinity and prefer to hike, you can access the trail from the parking area mentioned earlier. The hike to Laguna de Wilcacocha is approximately 1-2 hours, depending on your pace. The trail is well-marked, and you will be treated to stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Ensure you wear appropriate hiking shoes and carry water and snacks for the journey.
