Getting There

  • Walking

    From the Main Plaza of Machu Picchu, start by heading towards the Inca Trail entrance, which is clearly marked. Follow the path leading up the hillside for approximately 10 minutes until you reach the Intihuatana stone, a prominent landmark. From here, continue on the path that ascends to your left. After about 5 more minutes, you will see a sign directing you towards Intimachay. Follow the trail as it winds through the ancient ruins, taking in the scenery. After another 10 minutes of walking, you will arrive at Intimachay, a sacred rock formation located near a cliff with stunning views of the surrounding valleys.

    Alternatively, if you are near the Temple of the Sun, you can start there. Head southeast from the Temple, keeping the mountain on your left. Walk down the steps leading to a lower pathway, which will connect you to the upper trail towards Intimachay. After about 15 minutes of uphill walking, you will see a fork in the path; take the right path. Continue for another 5 minutes, and you will reach Intimachay, where you can enjoy the spiritual atmosphere and panoramic views.
