Car
From Pasco, head south on the main highway (Carretera Panamericana) towards Arequipa. The drive is approximately 6 hours, covering around 300 kilometers. Once you reach Arequipa, continue on the same route towards Chivay, which is the gateway to Colca Canyon. The distance from Arequipa to Chivay is about 165 kilometers, taking around 3-4 hours. There are tolls along the way, so be prepared for additional costs (approximately 10-15 soles). Upon reaching Chivay, follow the signs to Colca Canyon, which is about 30 minutes from the town center.
Public Transportation
From Pasco, take a bus to Arequipa. The bus journey takes about 6-7 hours, and tickets typically cost around 40-70 soles depending on the bus company. Once you arrive in Arequipa, head to the 'Terminal Terrestre' bus station to catch a bus to Chivay. This leg of the journey will take approximately 3-4 hours and costs around 30-50 soles. After arriving in Chivay, you can either take a taxi or a local colectivo (shared taxi) to reach Colca Canyon, which is approximately 30 minutes away.
Taxi or Private Transfer
For a more comfortable option, you can hire a taxi or arrange a private transfer from Arequipa directly to Colca Canyon. This service can be booked in advance online or through local travel agencies. The cost for a private transfer can range from 200 to 400 soles depending on the vehicle and service provider. The journey from Arequipa to Colca Canyon will take around 3-4 hours.
