From the main bus terminal in Puno, take a bus heading towards Juliaca. Inform the driver that you want to get off at Lake Umayo. The journey takes approximately 30-40 minutes. Once you reach the area near Lake Umayo, you will see signs directing you to the lake. Make sure to ask locals or the bus driver for specific drop-off points, as they may vary.

Shared Taxi (Colectivo)
At the main square (Plaza de Armas) in Puno, look for shared taxis (colectivos) that go towards Juliaca. These taxis usually wait until they are full before departing. Once you are in the taxi, inform the driver that you wish to go to Lake Umayo. The ride will take around 30 minutes. The driver will drop you off at the nearest point to the lake, where you can follow signs or ask locals for the short walk to the lake.

Walking from Puno
For those feeling adventurous and physically fit, you can walk to Lake Umayo. Start from the Plaza de Armas and head east on Calle Deustua. Continue straight until you reach the main road leading out of Puno. Follow the road north for approximately 10 kilometers (about 2-3 hours of walking). Keep an eye out for signs or locals to guide you. As you approach Lake Umayo, you will see the lake from a distance.

You can rent a bicycle from various rental shops in Puno, particularly around the Plaza de Armas. Once you have your bike, head towards the main road leading out of Puno in the direction of Juliaca.
