Car
If you have a rental car, drive from Cusco towards Mollepata, which is about a 2-hour drive. Follow the signs to Salkantay Trail. Once you reach Mollepata, continue on the road towards Soraypampa, which is the main starting point for the trek. The last leg of the drive is on a gravel road, so drive carefully. Park your car at the designated parking area in Soraypampa, where you can also find guides and support services for the trek to Salcantay.
Public Transportation
From Cusco, take a bus or van to Mollepata. Buses leave from the Cusco bus terminal and the journey takes about 2 hours, costing around 10-15 PEN. Once in Mollepata, you can either hike or take a shared taxi to Soraypampa, which is about a 1.5-hour journey. The shared taxi may cost around 20-30 PEN per person. At Soraypampa, you'll find guides and accommodations available to start your trek to Salcantay.
Hiking
Once you've reached Soraypampa, you can begin your hike to Salcantay. The trail is well-marked and follows a scenic route, taking about 4-6 hours depending on your pace. Be prepared for a challenging ascent with stunning views. Make sure to carry enough water, snacks, and a camera to capture the breathtaking landscapes. The altitude is significant, so take your time and acclimatize as needed.
