By Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey in the center of Cusco. Head southwest on Avenida El Sol toward Avenida de la Cultura. Continue onto Avenida Pardo, then take a right onto Avenida La Paz. Follow this road until you reach the intersection with Av. Huayruropata, where you will turn left. Follow the signs toward the Salkantay Trek starting point, located near Mollepata. Depending on traffic, this drive may take approximately 2-3 hours. Parking is available at the trailhead, and please note that you may need to pay a small fee for parking.
By Public Transportation
To reach the Salkantay Trek starting point using public transportation, begin at the Plaza de Armas in Cusco. Look for a minivan or shared taxi (collectivo) that is headed to Mollepata. The fare is usually around 10-15 soles (approximately $3-5) per person. The journey takes about 2-3 hours. Once you arrive in Mollepata, you can either continue by foot or arrange for a local taxi to take you closer to the trekking starting point.
Hiking from Mollepata
If you decide to hike from Mollepata to the Salkantay Trek starting point, follow the main road leading out of Mollepata. The trek from Mollepata to the trailhead will take roughly 1-2 hours on foot. The route is well-marked and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscapes. Make sure to have proper trekking gear and sufficient water for the hike.
