Walking
If you are in the heart of Old Town, start at the famous Długi Targ (Long Market), which is one of Gdańsk’s main thoroughfares. Walk towards the Green Gate (Zielona Brama) at the end of the market. From the Green Gate, continue straight along the waterfront of the Motława River until you reach the historic Crane (Żuraw). Once at the Crane, follow the path along the riverbank, and look for signs leading to the Fortifications. St. Gertrude Bastion is located not far from here, just a short walk into the greenery of the park areas. Look for paths that lead uphill towards the bastion.

While you can reach St. Gertrude Bastion by walking, if you prefer public transport, you can take tram line 3 from Długi Targ to the stop 'Brama Wyżynna.' From there, it’s about a 15-minute walk. After getting off the tram, head towards the Gdańsk Historical Museum, then follow the signs to the fortifications. This method may incur a small tram fare, typically around 3.80 PLN for a single ticket.
