Getting There

Car
If you are driving, first navigate to the town of Zakopane, which is the gateway to the Tatra Mountains. From Zakopane, take the DK47 road south towards the border with Slovakia. Continue on DK47 for approximately 8 km until you reach the turn-off for Dolina Kościeliska. Turn right onto the road leading into the valley. Follow this road for about 6 km until you reach the parking area at the entrance of the Kościeliska Valley. Here, you will need to pay a parking fee of around 10 PLN for the day. Once parked, follow the marked trails into the valley towards Mokradła, which is indicated by the black hiking trail (Czarny Szlak). The hike from the parking area will take approximately 1.5 hours, depending on your pace.

If you are using public transportation, start by taking a bus from Krakow to Zakopane. The bus ride takes about 2 hours and tickets cost around 30 PLN. Once you arrive in Zakopane, you can catch a local bus to the Kościeliska Valley. The bus stop for the Kościeliska Valley buses is located near the Zakopane bus station. The bus ride will take approximately 30 minutes, and tickets cost about 5 PLN. Get off at the last stop, where you will find the entrance to the valley. From there, follow the marked trails to Mokradła via the black hiking trail (Czarny Szlak), which takes around 1.5 hours to hike.

Once you've reached the parking area or the bus stop at the entrance to Dolina Kościeliska, you will begin your hike on the black trail. The trail is well-marked, and you will find signposts indicating the direction to Mokradła. The hike is approximately 5 km (3.1 miles) and will take you through beautiful scenery, including dense forests and rocky landscapes. Make sure to wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring water and snacks. The trail can be steep in some sections, so be prepared for a moderate level of difficulty.
