Getting There

  • Walking

    Start at the Narragansett Town Beach, located at 39 Boston Neck Rd, Narragansett, RI 02882. Head southwest on Ocean Rd (also known as RI-1A) towards the right side of the beach. Continue walking along the sidewalk for about 0.5 miles until you reach the intersection with Narragansett Ave. Turn left onto Narragansett Ave and follow it for about 1 mile until you reach the intersection with Crest Ave. Turn right onto Crest Ave. The John H. Chafee National Wildlife Refuge will be on your left at 43 Crest Ave.

  • Biking

    If you prefer to bike, you can rent a bike from a local shop near Narragansett Town Beach. Start at the beach and head southwest on Ocean Rd for approximately 0.5 miles. At the intersection with Narragansett Ave, turn left and continue biking for about 1 mile. Turn right onto Crest Ave, and you will find the John H. Chafee National Wildlife Refuge on your left at 43 Crest Ave. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow all biking regulations.

  • Public Transit

    While there is no direct bus route to the refuge, you can take the RIPTA bus route 14 from Narragansett. Board the bus at the Narragansett Town Hall stop. Ride to the South County Commons stop, then transfer to the bus heading towards Wakefield. Get off at the intersection of Kingstown Rd and Post Rd. From there, you will need to walk about 1.5 miles. Head east on Kingstown Rd, then turn left onto RI-1A (also known as Ocean Rd). Continue walking for about 0.5 miles and turn left onto Crest Ave. The refuge will be on your left at 43 Crest Ave.
