Walking
If you are starting from the center of Butare, head south on Avenue de l'Indépendance towards the main roundabout. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto Avenue de la Réunification. Continue straight for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the intersection with the road leading to Nyanza. Turn left onto the road towards Nyanza and follow it for approximately 8 kilometers. As you approach Nyanza, look for signage indicating 'Kwigira Museum'. The museum will be on your right side, just past the intersection with JPJR+679.
Bicycle
For those cycling, begin at the central square of Butare. Ride south on Avenue de l'Indépendance, then take the second exit at the main roundabout onto Avenue de la Réunification. Continue cycling straight for about 1.5 kilometers, then turn left onto the road leading to Nyanza. Cycle along this road for about 8 kilometers. Keep an eye out for signs for 'Kwigira Museum', which will be on your right just after the intersection with JPJR+679.
Motorbike Taxi
To reach Kwigira Museum via a motorbike taxi, go to a main point in Butare, such as the central square. Once there, negotiate with a motorbike taxi driver and tell them you want to go to Kwigira Museum in Nyanza. The driver will take you directly to the museum, which is approximately 8 kilometers away. Make sure to confirm the price before starting your journey.
Public Transport
From Butare, locate the bus station near the central square. Look for a bus heading towards Nyanza. The bus ride typically takes around 30 minutes. Inform the conductor that you want to get off at Kwigira Museum or at the nearest stop. Once you arrive in Nyanza, you may need to walk a short distance (about 5-10 minutes) to reach the museum, which will be along JPJR+679.
