Walking
From the center of Butare, start at the National Museum of Rwanda. Head southeast on Avenue de la Révolution towards Avenue du 1er Novembre. Turn left onto Avenue du 1er Novembre and walk straight for about 1 kilometer. Keep an eye out for a sign for 'Murambi Genocide Memorial Centre' as you approach the intersection with Unnamed Road. Turn onto Unnamed Road and continue for about 2 kilometers. The memorial center will be on your right-hand side. Look for the entrance marked clearly.
Bicycle
If you have access to a bicycle, leave from the National Museum of Rwanda and head southeast on Avenue de la Révolution. Turn left onto Avenue du 1er Novembre and cycle for approximately 1 kilometer. At the intersection with Unnamed Road, take a right turn and continue cycling straight for about 2 kilometers. You will see the Murambi Genocide Memorial Centre on your right. It’s advisable to wear a helmet and be cautious of any traffic.
Public Transport
From Butare town center, find a local moto-taxi (motorcycle taxi) or a bicycle taxi (known as 'moto' and 'bycicle taxi' respectively). Tell the driver you want to go to 'Murambi Genocide Memorial Centre'. The ride should take about 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. Ensure you agree on the fare before starting your journey. The driver will know the location as it is a known tourist site. You'll be dropped off right at the entrance.
