Getting There

    From Byumba, head southwest on the main road (RN4) towards Musanze. The drive is approximately 50 km and will take about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. Follow the signs for Musanze and then for Volcanoes National Park. Upon reaching Musanze, follow the signs to Kinigi, which is the nearest town to the park's entrance. The park's main entrance is located in Kinigi. Make sure to carry cash for any entrance fees, which typically cost around $60 for foreign visitors.

    To travel by public transport, head to the Byumba bus station and take a bus heading to Musanze. Buses leave regularly throughout the day and the fare is typically around RWF 1,500. Once you arrive in Musanze, you will need to take a moto-taxi (motorcycle taxi) or a shared taxi to Kinigi. The moto-taxi fare to Kinigi is about RWF 2,000. Upon arrival in Kinigi, follow the signs to the Volcanoes National Park entrance, which is well-marked. Ensure you have cash for park entrance fees.
